Learning is light and communication: General Director of RSCC Alexey Volin told students about the role of satellite communications in a special course at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University
The Middle East, Africa and Asia are now among the fastest growing satellite markets. In Africa alone, the demand for satellite capacity is projected to grow 8-fold over the next 7 years. RSCC is active in the region and is interested, among other things, in translators from these languages, RSCC General Director Alexey Volin told students on September 10 as part of a joint educational project between the enterprise and the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University (IAAS MSU).
“Millions of people in the region live in places without public communication systems. The only way to provide residents of remote areas with Internet services and bridge the digital divide is by satellite. The less developed the terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure in the state, the more it needs space communications,” Alexey Volin said at the lecture “Introduction to Satellite Systems”. The company operates in 61 countries, more than half of them belong to the Afro-Asian region. The company's spacecraft provide TV broadcasting, data transmission, departmental and corporate communications, and maritime VSAT as well as IFC services.
The lesson became an introductory one in the cycle of the special master's course of RSCC and the IAAS MSU for students of political science. The next lecturers will be:
- Yuri Urlichich, Adviser to General Director of RSCC, Chairman of the Council of the Association of Satellite Communications Market Players, who will talk about spacecraft design, space economics and international legal regulation;
- Alexander Krylov, director of the RSCC branch - SCC Skolkovo, who will focus on global navigation and military space systems;
- Andrey Kirillovich, Director of Strategy, Marketing and Business Development at Intersputnik, who will provide an overview of the satellite market in Africa, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.
The joint educational project of RSCC and IAAS MSU has become part of the company's long-term work to train qualified personnel in an industry that needs not only engineers, developers or IT specialists, but also translators who understand the work and structure of spacecraft, as well as multi-skilled specialists who can promote Russian communication services abroad.
