Theirs and ours: RSCC and RTKOMM discussed the work of new domestic VSAT equipment in Vladivostok
The management of RSCC and the branch of RTKomm.RU JSC (RTCOMM) in Vladivostok discussed the operation of a satellite network organized using fully Russian channel-forming equipment. The meeting and demonstration of domestic stations took place on August 21 on the territory of the teleport of RTKomm.RU JSC in Vladivostok.
RTCOMM has been engaged in import substitution of satellite equipment in cooperation with Russian developers since 2023. The operator has provided technological independence for Ku-band antennas, C-band transmitters, and SCPC modems, representatives of the company said at the meeting.
The companies also agreed on the further development of the Eliminate Digital Inequality project (EDI) using satellites of RSCC. The enterprise’s spacecraft covers over 90% of the Far Eastern Federal District’s territory. Four of the 12 satellites — Express-AT2, Express-AM5, Express-AMU3 and Express-AMU7 — provide telecommunications services and direct television broadcasting to the Far East.
“The modems of RTCOMM, using the capacity of our spacecraft and operating on the network, have already been successfully used as part of the EDI project. In 2023-2024, 103 settlements with a total population of 48 thousand people were connected using RSCC satellites. Now, active work is underway to create VSAT hubs and implement the EDI 2.0 project. This year, we plan to provide a total of 47 more settlements with 22 thousand residents with reliable communications and the Internet,” said General Director of RSCC Alexey Volin.
RSCC employees also held talks with the management of OkeanTelecom Telecommunications Company LLC, during which they discussed issues of cooperation in providing maritime communication services, as well as the possibility of redundancy via RSCC satellites. Currently, 469 ships are working already in the marine VSAT network of RSCC through OkeanTelecom. At the same time, a total of 1,084 vessels operate via RSCC satellites, which is 72% of all connected Russian ships in general.
