Olympic results of satellite communications: Dubna Space Communications Center celebrates its 45th anniversary

45 years ago, the branch of RSCC, the largest teleport in Russia and Eastern Europe — Space Communications Center (SCC) Dubna — began operating. In 1980, it helped to broadcast ‘1980 Summer Olympics’ on more than 20 international channels that demonstrated the achievements of the Soviet satellite sphere at the global level. SCC Dubna still remains one of the most important objects of the telecommunications industry.

General Director of RSCC Alexey Volin gave a welcoming speech at the event in honor of the anniversary, which took place on February 4 in Dubna.

“Our Space Communications Center in is a unique facility. For 45 years, it has been connecting people in Russia and around the world — from Kaliningrad to Western Siberia, from Spitsbergen to Antarctica, from small settlements to ships at sea. I wish to continue setting the same high bar and take our industry to cosmic heights,” said Alexey Volin.

As Director of the branch Andrey Kulikov added, the issue of increasing the territory of SCC for working with promising satellites of RSCC is currently being resolved. “Of course, we must not forget that qualified professionals are the main capital of the enterprise,” he summed up.

As part of the event, General Director of RSCC presented departmental awards and honourable distinctions to 24 employees of SCC.

Thus, Director of the Center Andrey Kulikov was awarded an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation. Four more people were awarded the same diploma. Assistant director Yuri Okulov received the title of ‘Master of Communications’, and three more employees received gratitude from the minister. The title of ‘Veteran of Labor of RSCC’ was awarded to four employees. The RSCC Badge ‘For Personal Contribution to the Development of Space Communications’ of the 1st degree was awarded to Deputy Director of SCC - Chief Engineer Sergey Eleferov, as well as three other employees. The 2nd degree badge was awarded to two people. Five employees received honorary certificates of RSCC.

In addition, Deputy Mayor of Dubna Dmitry Utrobin thanked the colleagues from SCC for their important and fruitful work, presenting honorary certificates of the Head of Dubna.
