Satellite for selva: RSCC presents its services at SET Expo in Brazil

The delegation of Russian Satellite Communications Company takes part in the key telecommunications exhibition of Latin America SET EXPO 2023, which is held in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo from 7 to 10 August. About 400 leading national and international companies producing equipment, creating technologies and providing services in the audio-visual content, telecommunications, broadcasting and digital media market present their services at the exhibition. RSCC is represented by its booth along with other major satellite operators, such as Eutelsat, SES, Intelsat.

The specific feature of Latin American market is the continued growth of the satellite TV audience, which determines the business of all operators in this region. Meanwhile, Latin American countries have been facing the same problems that are characteristic of states with a complex topography and low purchasing power of the population. In particular, there is a significant gap between city and rural areas in the availability of information and communications services. According to a report by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA), out of the total population of 26 countries in Latin America, 72 million people living in rural areas do not have high-speed Internet access. The percentage of the region's population that does not have a high-quality connection is estimated at 32%.

However, Brazil remains the largest economy and one of the fastest growing markets in Latin America. “Brazil is a key area for business development in the region for RSCC. Due to its large territory and hard-to-reach areas, satellite communications have no alternative here. At the same time, Brazil is a very difficult market in terms of market entry: due to strict regulation, rather few companies, even large ones, can provide their services in the country. RSCC has such an opportunity and works in Brazil in close collaboration with its local partner Romantis de Brazil, with whom it has been cooperating since 2010,” said Alexey Volin, Director General of RSCC.

At the negotiations held before the start of the exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, representatives of a number of Brazilian companies expressed their interest in using the bandwidth of Express-AM8 (14° W). Meanwhile, five Brazilian TV channels have already been using the company's satellite capacity and have confirmed their intention to continue cooperation. A number of meetings with Brazilian operators are planned during the exhibition.
