Within coverage area: RSCC and ArcticTelecom JSC to connect hard-to-reach settlements in Yakutia to Wi-Fi network

Mikhail Glinka, Head of corporate and operators’ solutions sales department of RSCC, and Viktor Sergeev, Director General of ArcticTelecom JSC, presented the "Arctic Wi-Fi" project designed to bridge the digital divide in the region. The presentation was held with the involvement of Aysen Nikolayev - the head of Yakutia - at the innovative projects exhibition "2023 Sakha Innovation".

This new solution provides access to high-quality wireless Internet at speeds of up to 8 Mbit/sec for more than 150 remote settlements. The signal from the access points is received within a distance of about 100 meters from the point for mobile devices and 2 km for stationary ones.

"Our main objective is to provide uninterrupted Internet access in settlements where there is either no connection or it is limited. ArcticTelecom JSC and we work on increasing the speed, improving services, as well as organizing new satellite stations to provide the highest quality services to our users," said Mikhail Glinka.

"Space communications is one of the most accessible sources of communication over millions of square kilometers of the Arctic zone. The Arctic Wi-Fi project will operate using the reliable channels of our partner, the No. 1 satellite operator in Russia - Russian Satellite Communications Company. The test results have already shown good values of stability and quality of the channel being organized," added Viktor Sergeev.

To connect to the "Arctic Wi-Fi" service, a user has to pick-up the "Arctic Wi-Fi" signal, log-on and choose a tariff. The users will also have free access to the Gosuslugi website.
