Satellite to show: Yakutia switches all TV and radio broadcasting streams to two new RSCC satellites
This will triple the volume of satellite communications and broadcasting services provided by RSCC to Yakutia. This decision was reached at the meeting between the Head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Aysen Nikolayev and Alexey Volin, the Director General of Russian Satellite Communications Company.
During the conversation Alexey Volin said that all 211 sites of federal digital terrestrial TV in the republic have been fully switched to two new RSCC satellites. Broadcasting of 20 free terrestrial TV channels in Yakutia and regional inserts on VGTRK and OTR channels were organised using RSCC satellites. Furthermore, the satellites of the Russian federal operator ensure operation of 631 repeaters of Yakut TV and radio channels, which are currently available to 99.6% of the republic's residents. More than a thousand ground stations receive satellite signals and provide communications and Internet services to authorities, local administrations, local operators, companies, businesses and the population of remote and hard-to-reach areas.
During his visit to the republic, the Director General of RSCC also held meetings with the Minister of Innovation, Digital Development and Infocommunication Technologies of Yakutia - Anatoly Semenov, as well as the top managers of the Yakut Internet service provider ArcticTelecom and the Republican Center of Information and Communications Technologies. After that, Alexey Volin visited the Yakutia Technopark, the modular data processing center and the satellite communications station.
Yakutia is the largest administrative territory in the world, larger than Argentina. At the same time, the population density in Yakutia is 70 times lower than in the European part of the country, and therefore satellite communications are the only way for its residents to get an access to digital services. At least 75,000 residents of the republic have no alternative to satellite for Internet access. It is also planned to establish communication with 90 sites of the Republican Ministry of Health using the satellite communication, which will improve the quality of medical care for residents of remote areas.
For bridging the digital divide, the Ministry of Innovation, Digital Development, Information and Communications Technologies of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has developed a program to ensure reliable communications for all residents. RSCC will act as a strategic partner in the implementation of this program.
