Argentine perspectives of RSCC: advancement of cooperation between Russia and Argentina in space was discussed live at the Valdai Discussion Club
On October 27, the Valdai Club, in conjunction with Argentine Council for International Relations, arranged an expert discussion on "The future of outer space in international politics: challenges and opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Argentina."
Two years ago, Russia and Argentina signed a Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Space. However, cooperation between the two countries has a much longer history, and today the agreements between Russia and Argentina imply a wide range of areas of cooperation, including joint programs and projects, exchange of scientific and technical information, exchange of personnel and professional development, joint research, creation of new spacecraft and related infrastructure.
As Yevgeny Buydinov, RSCC Deputy General Director, noted, Russia and Argentina have a lot in common: both countries have large territories and an uneven population spread, both countries have well-developed shipping industries. Evgeny Buydinov spoke about the company's input in satellite communications, including ensuring equal opportunities for Internet access in remote areas, providing crew members at sea with the usual level of media consumption and communications, as well as the development of unmanned navigation.
“Using space technology for the good of society is a source of endless opportunities. We must work together to strengthen international cooperation to make outer space a sustainable space, said Carolina E. Catani, representative of National Committee for Space Activities (CONAE), noting the importance of linking the space agenda to the UN's sustainable development agenda and taking ethical principles into account when developing regulations for space.
The discussion was also attended by Valentin Uvarov, General Director of SR Climatic Monitoring System LLC, Success Rockets corporation, Vice President of the Argentinean company VENG S.A. Gabriel Absi, Vice President of the Aerospace Department of INVAP Luis Castillo.
The discussion was summed up by Juan Battalem, Director of Science at CARI.
The parties have expressed confidence that it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in outer space projects and to use the potential of Russian and Argentinean enterprises for developing the economies of the two countries.
