RSCC and JSC RESHETNEV (part of Roscosmos) signed four contracts for the creation of geostationary communications and broadcasting satellites Express-AMU6, Express-40, Express-AMU51 and Express-AMU52

The contracts were signed by General Director of RSCC Alexey Volin and General Director of RESHETNEV JSC Mikhail Valov, with the participation of Dmitry Ugnivenko, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia, and General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Bakanov.

The total amount of contracts is 65.95 billion rubles. RESHETNEV JSC was recognized as the winner of all four closed competitions announced by RSCC on November 17, 2025. All satellites should be produced by the end of 2029.

The spacecraft are being created within the framework of the federal project "Infrastructure for Access to the Internet Information and Telecommunications Network" and the national project "Data Economics and Digital Transformation of the State". The satellites will be launched into orbit by Proton launch vehicles with Briz-M upper stages, which are provided by the federal project "Satellite Communications and Earth Observation" of the national project "Development of Space Activities of the Russian Federation".

Satellite Characteristics:

  • Express-AMU6 (orbital position 53° E) is designed for broadcasting, data transmission, mobile communications, telephony, as well as broadband access and multimedia. The AMU6 is to replace the Express-AM6 spacecraft in orbit.
  • Express-40 (orbital position 40 ° E) has the same functionality as AMU6. The spacecraft will replace the Express-AM7, which is scheduled to last until 2029.

Express-AMU51 and Express-AMU52 (140° E) are being created to replace the Express-AM5 and Express-AT2 spacecraft in the same orbital position.

  • Express-AMU51 is designed for direct television and radio broadcasting, data transmission and communication on mobile objects.
  • Express-AMU52 will complement AMU51 at 140° E without interference-frequency conflicts, designed for television and radio broadcasting and data transmission services in the Ka band.

All four satellites are designed to operate in orbit for 15 years.

"The signing of these agreements is the first stage of a very important work, which our company JSC RESHETNEV has already started. Thanks to it, tens of millions of people in the country are provided with satellite television and the Internet, in addition, our devices provide communications for air transport and vessels, and perform other tasks in the field of telecommunications. Therefore, Roscosmos sets the task of manufacturing satellites of the highest quality and in strict accordance with the deadlines set in the contracts. All four satellites are designed for 15 years of operation in orbit," said Dmitry Bakanov, General Director of Roscosmos.

"This is a record order for four communications and broadcasting spacecraft at once. Next up are three more tenders for three satellites, and one more satellite has been in production for a couple of years. Thus, we are talking about creating an entire connected space flotilla of eight satellites in the next five years. The task is extremely major and ambitious. There are few companies in the world that can handle it. We count on our colleagues very much, we hope for them and we believe in them," said Alexey Volin, General Director of RSCC.

"The creation of four telecommunications spacecraft of the Express series is a challenge for our team. And we accept it," said Mikhail Valov, General Director of RESHETNEV JSC. "We understand all the responsibility that has been assigned to us. And we will make every effort to fulfill all the tasks stipulated in the contract."
