Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) is a national satellite communications operator with 36-years of experience. RSCC operates the largest orbital constellation in Russia, which comprises 14 GEO satellites. The satellites are positioned between 14 W and 145 E orbital slots. The satellite footprints cover the territory of Russia, CIS, Europe, Asia, North and South Americas, Africa. RSCC share of services is 83% in domestic satellite services market.

The satellites are positioned between 14 W and 145 E orbital slots. The satellite footprints cover the territory of Russia, CIS, Europe, Asia, North and South Americas, Africa. RSCC share of services is 83% in domestic satellite services market.

The deployment of 2 new teleports in the cities of Khabarovsk and Krasnoyarsk has given RSCC a unique opportunity to extend its terrestrial facilities on the territory of Russia from Moscow Region to the Far East. Now RSCC operates 6 teleports.

TT&C services

There are control and monitoring stations deployed on the RSCC teleports. The stations have been successfully operating for the purposes of monitoring and control over up-to-date Russian-made Express-A and Express-AM series spacecraft and Eutelsat, LMI, Intelsat series spacecraft as well. The satellite control centers receive telemetry, transmit telecommands and define orbital parameters of spacecraft in geo-stationary orbit. The RSCC equipment is not only capable to control and monitor the satellites already deployed into orbit, but also can control spacecraft in the course of their injection into orbit.

This terrestrial infrastructure allows to use all cutting-edge communication technologies, as well as to transmit common data traffic in unified technological framework. RSCC satellite constellation allows to transmit and receive great amount of information content virtually across the whole territory of Russia, CIS and countries worldwide.
RSCC has started to implement a Project for Renovation of Satellite Constellation in accordance with the decrees of the Russian Federation Government. In the context of the Federal space program of Russia, Project for Renovation provides for production and launching of five new generation Express-AM series communications and broadcasting  satellites into geostationary orbit by the end of 2005. The satellites have improved performance characteristics. The implementation of the Project for Renovation of Russian National Satellite Constellation will allow RSCC to extend technical capabilities considerably and to provide customers with new level services.

Express-AM11 (96,5E) satellite

At this moment 2 of 5 new Express-AM satellites was successfully launched.  A new EXPRESS-AM11 was entered operation and added to the RSCC orbital fleet at 96,5 E on 1st July 2004. IOT of the satellite launched 27 April 2004 was successful, on-board systems are in normal operation, the satellite performance comply with the specified parameters. EXPRESS-AM11 offers the capacity for communications and broadcasting across Russia, CIS countries, Middle East, Asia. The satellite launching is a new stage in the development of Federal Space Program of Russia. EXPRESS-AM11 is the 2d in EXPRESS-AM five-satellite campaign to be finished by the end of 2005.

The EXPRESS-AM11 satellite was designed under the order of RSCC by NPO PM in cooperation with Alcatel Space. The satellite carries 26 C-band transponders (40 MHz equivalent units) and 4 Ku-band transponders (54 MHz equivalent units). The satellite lifetime is 12 years. The station-keeping accuracy is 0.05? N-S/W-E. The EXPRESS-AM11 C-band fixed beams provide reach of Russia, CIS countries, Middle East and Asia. Two steerable  C- and Ku-band beams serve the area in Russia, CIS countries, the territory from Eastern Coast of Africa to South East Asia and Australia (C-band - up to 47 dBW at centre; Ku-band - up to 51 dBW at centre).

The new EXPRESS-AM11 spacecraft is designed for digital TV and radio broadcasting, telephony, data transmission, broadband Internet access, VSAT  networks, multimedia services (distant learning and telemedicine).

TV & radio broadcasting

By using renovating RSCC constellation, Customers can transmit and receive federal, regional and commercial TV/radio programs within the coverage areas of our satellites, that serve the territories of Russia, CIS countries, Europe and Asia, the North and South Americas, Africa. RSCC offers regional broadcasters to lease RSCC space segment capacity for the purposes of local broadcasting.

Setting-up of satellite data channels. Broadband Internet access

RSCC offers services to its customers in connection to the networks of telephone operators. The customer is provided with access to international, long-distance and local telephone links, as well as fax and ISDN capabilities. Besides, it is possible to set up telephone channels by applying VSAT technologies along with the other telecommunication and broadcasting services in single stream. RSCC provides its customers with data transfer and broadband Internet access services and deploys corporate data networks by means of RSCC constellation of communications and broadcasting GEO satellites, six teleports and extensive fiber-optic network. The switching office is located at "Shabolovka" Technical Center (Moscow).

Video-conferencing

RSCC renders video-conferencing services including services in holding distant business negotiations in real-time (at low cost), distant presentations of products and services, distant learning by applying IP-network, ISDN channels and advanced transcieving terminal equipment.

Multi-service VSAT networking

RSCC technical potentialities, new advanced Express-AM series satellites and accumulated practical experience permit to deploy multi-service communication networks all over the world. These facilities enable to provide users with a wide package of up-to-date communication and broadcasting services, including digital TV, telephony, data transfer, the Internet access and video-conferencing. RSCC renders diverse types of services (for example - television and the Internet access) on the basis of single technical approach, it substantially reduces the cost of networks deployment and increases efficiency of the network operation. This is one of the advantages which makes VSAT-based networks perspective at this stage of telecommunications development.
