As part of the event, a panel discussion took place on "Status and prospects of developing communication networks: modern conceptual approaches, and evolution", where experts discussed the main factors affecting the industry’s advancement in today’s conditions.
The discussion was attended by representatives of the Federal Communication Agency, Rostelecom, RSCC, NIIR, industry R&D institutes, TsNIIS, and other enterprises and organizations.
Particular attention was given to the problem of restoring functionality of the unified telecommunications network in emergency situations. According to RSCC Director General, Yuri Prokhorov, "The use of communications satellites as backup for terrestrial networks in the event of emergencies is the most efficient solution from an economic point of view."
In the discussion on future directions of developing communication networks and the industry as a whole, Ksenia Drozdova, RSCC Deputy Director General for Business Development, noted that "The current pace of technology evolution demands maximum flexibility from the operators, and convergence from the networks. The growing rate of Machine - to - Machine (M2M) interaction, and Industrial Internet, open up new horizons of growth for operators, shifting the emphasis from transmission of video content to ‘big data’. In so doing, the satellite will be increasingly used as a means of delivering them to the user."
