RSCC Director-General Yuri Prokhorov sent greetings to the Championship participants RSCC Commercial Department Director Alexei Vdovin spoke at Business Forum about capabilities of Russian satellite communications operators in international markets.
On 7 June 2012 the Moscow Region hosted the 5th Jubilee All-Russia Championship on VSAT Speed Installation called VSAT`2012. For the first time the event was held in the framework of the International Business Forum - Space Comms Business Days 2012. Organized by ComNews Conferences and AltegroSky group of companies, the Championship was sponsored by the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz), RSCC and Global VSAT Forum (GVF).
In his address to the Championship participants, Rossvyaz Chief Oleg Dukhovnitsky noted that ‘the VSAT`2012 is opening new vistas by embracing Ka-band, a novelty item for the Russian industry. Another important function of the Championship is to facilitate networking among satellite communications professionals and increase awareness about best practices and skills in VSAT installation and use’.
RSCC Director-General Yuri Prokhorov spoke at the Championship opening using a video-conferencing connection via a mobile unit set up at the Medvezhyi Ozera (“Bear Lakes”). He stressed that “for RSCC, practical applications of space technologies are of prime importance, and RSCC highly appreciates AltegroSky’s initiative to stage an event in its current format. Advancing satellite communications and broadcasting is crucial for overcoming digital inequality and implementing socially significant infrastructure projects in the Russian Federation. VSAT-based solutions support telephone links, TV and Internet access availability for residents of Russia’s most remote areas’.
The fifth jubilee VSAT`2012 championship reaffirmed its status as the largest and unique professional contest of VSAT installers in Russia and CIS. As many as sixteen teams participated, representing cities in all Federal Districts from Saint-Petersburg to Yakutskа.
VSAT`2012 featured three types of events: speed making of patchcords and RF cables, accuracy of antenna adjustment (VSAT antenna/satellite pointing accuracy), and speed VSAT terminal (antenna post) installation and network connection. Winners were identified in each event, as well as overall winners.
The Overall Winner Prize of the Championship was won by the Navigator team representing Navigator LLC from Krasnoyarsk. At the award-giving ceremony the prize was presented by Evgeny Buidinov, RSCC Deputy Director-General for Innovations and Development.
Championship guests and Space Comms Business Days participants toured the Medvezhyi Ozera Satellite Communications Center, an RSCC branch.
