RSCC specialists have completed testing the new Express-AM8 satellite and started translating it to its 14°W operational orbital slot

Flight tests of the Express-AM8 satellite systems and payload have been completed without issues. On 16 October, RSCC specialists started translating the Express-AM8 satellite to 14°W, RSCC’s most western orbital slot. According to the current plans, the new Express-AM8 satellite will be commissioned in early December 2015.

About Express-AM8:

Positioned at 14°W, the geostationary Express-AM8 satellite will make state-of-art communications and broadcasting services available to users in European Russia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. The Express-AM8 satellite was built on the RSCC order by JSC ISS - Reshetnev Company under the Federal Target Program entitled “The Development of TV and Radio Broadcasting in the Russian Federation in 2009-2015”. The project was financed by RSCC’s own funds.

The active service life of the satellite is 15 years. The satellite is outfitted with C-, Ku- and L-band transponders.
