On June 14, 2019, Alexey Vdovin, Director of the Commercial Department of Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Russian Satellite Communication Company”, met with Anatoly Semyonov, Minister of Innovation, Digital Development and Info-Communication Technologies of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The parties discussed the prospects of development and accessibility of satellite communication services in Yakutia.
"Yakutia has huge territories, and you can connect to the Internet almost anywhere in the republic," commented Anatoly Semyonov. "Today, thanks to the construction of terrestrial communication channels, about 80% of residents have access to high-speed Internet. In areas where fiber optic links are missing or cannot be built for geographical reasons, it is possible to connect to the Internet via satellite. But the main issue here is the cost of services, so we are interested in making the satellite Internet more affordable."
In the course of the negotiations, the parties agreed on further cooperation in solving technical and financial issues of using satellite communications in the republic.
