During the visit, the provision of communication and broadcasting services to Chukotka’s settlements, including with the use of capabilities of the Russian Satellite Communications Company, was discussed

At the joint meeting chaired by the Minister of Communication and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov and Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug Roman Kopin, with the participation of representatives of the Russian Satellite Communications Company, the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network and communication operators, the issues of quality and availability of communication services and prospects for solving the problem of the digital gap in the region were addressed.

Currently, communication services and access to the Internet in Chukotka are fully provided by the use of satellite channels.

In December 2015, the Minister of Communication and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov and Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug Roman Kopin signed an agreement where the parties agreed to explore options for increasing the capacity of the Express-AM5 spacecraft used for the provision of telecommunications services in the region.
