On 26 April 2012 at the international conference on Convergent Services on Satellite Communication Networks – SatNet 2012 at Dubna near Moscow, RSCC specialists demonstrated a technical solution that supports TV broadcasting using Ka-Band satellite capacity and video content delivery technology via an IP network with unsecured pass band.

To minimize pass band deviation in the satellite channel between the broadcasting server and the users (conference participants), the OTT TV technology was used, making it possible to provide TV broadcasting with adaptive bit-rate alteration. The demonstrated solution was based on the following broadcast standards: Microsoft Silverlight Smooth Streaming, Apple HLS (HTTP Live Streaming), and Adobe Dynamic Streaming for Flash.

The participants, using their personal devices, were able to watch the Sport HD channel (as a flow video), download video and watch the Conference live. The live coverage was arranged by RBC-TV channel.

The broadcast was supported by RSCC’s Shabolovka Technical Center and Dubna Space Communications Center. Eutelsat, Harmonic, KitDigital, NGENIX, VGTRK were technical partners while RBC-TV was a media partner.
