Satellite warrants precision: RSCC to begin first field testing of precise point positioning technology in summer 2023

RSCC will begin field testing of the precise point positioning technology in July this year, with the engagement of agricultural holdings, research institutions, and farming machinery manufacturers. This is what Russian Satellite Communications Company representatives said at the CIPR exhibition where the company's services and advanced projects conducted within the Industry Competence Center (ICC) "Satellite Communications" were presented. The "Digital Industry of Industrial Russia" (CIPR) exhibition and conference is one of the largest business events of the country in the field of digital economy and is being held in Nizhny Novgorod from May 31 to June 2. The 2023 event has nearly 6,000 registered attendees, many of whom have shown active interest in both the classic and innovative services of RSCC.

Recent tests of satellite equipment for agricultural transport have shown that the joint development of RSCC and Automated Communication Systems JSC makes it possible to achieve positioning precision of up to 5 cm. Now the tests of precise point positioning technology in the mode of real operation of agricultural machinery are upcoming. It is important that the two satellites of Russian Satellite Communications Company, "Express-AT1" and "Express-AT2", allow covering almost 100% of Russian farming lands, while ground-based radio communication networks cover only 10% of the fields all over the country. This makes it possible to carry out agricultural work in the most efficient way.

Within the framework of the ICC, RSCC is developing its own encoding system for TV and audio-visual signals, as well as modernizing the ground infrastructure, adapting it to domestic software. Russian Satellite Communications Company successfully responds to other challenges the industry has faced in recent years: for example, RSCC ordered the production of domestic spacecraft "Express-AMU4". For the first time ever, digital payload solutions will be applied on this spacecraft. The new technology makes it possible to replace the services of companies that have left the Russian market on the basis of GPS.
