Satellite at the edge of Russia: RSCC delegation holds working meeting with Chukotka governor Vladislav Kuznetsov

The development of internet connectivity and TV in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug was discussed by Alexey Volin, Director General of the Russian Satellite Communications Company, and Governor Vladislav Kuznetsov. The meeting took place in Anadyr. The regional administration emphasized that satellite communications are of strategic importance in Chukotka, being used for connectivity in more than 40 settlements. Until fiber-optic communication lines are installed, guaranteed satellite capacity remains critical for the Okrug.

The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is covered by the service areas of the Express-AM5 and Express-AMU7 satellites, located on the eastern arc of the geostationary orbit at 140° E and 145° E, respectively. They provide TV distribution services and direct satellite broadcasting and internet access to the local population, as well as communications services to internet providers and companies operating in the region.

"Satellite technologies are a vital part of the digital infrastructure in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, so we plan to build and launch two new Russian satellites —Express-AMU51 and Express-AMU52 — by 2030 to meet the needs of residents and organizations. The new satellites are equipped with payloads in various frequency bands to provide both high-speed internet and HD television," noted Alexey Volin, General Director of RSCC.
