Express AM4 Now at Baikonur

Moscow, 22 July 2011 – This morning the Express AM4 spacecraft was delivered to the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakhstan). The spacecraft is currently being offloaded and moved to the Technical Complex for pre-launch ground processing. Working at the launch base are specialists from Astrium, Khrunichev Space Center and RSCC.

Toulouse – Moscow, 19 July 2011 – The Express AM4 satellite, designed and manufactured by Astrium teaming with Khrunichev for RSCC, has left Astrium’s facility in Toulouse, where it had undergone its final integration and test campaign. Express AM4 will now be transported by a Russian Antonov aircraft to Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in preparation for its launch by a Khrunichev Proton Breeze M vehicle in August 2011.
RSCC Awarded Contract for Backup Data Channel to Control AMOS-5

23 June 2011, Zheleznogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Russia. The tender was initiated by OAO Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (OAO ISS), the satellite manufacturer. Based on the tender results, RSCC and OAO SIS will sign a contract for the development and technical support of a backup data channel to control Israel’s AMOS-5 satellite.

RSCC and Morsviazsputnik, both federal unitary state-run enterprises, have announced that on the occasion of Sviaz/Expo Comm Moscow 2011 they signed a cooperation agreement, aiming at increased efficiency of their asset utilization by both entities with a view to providing advanced satellite communications services. Attending the signing ceremony was Leo Mondale, Director, Inmarsat 5 (Global Xpres).

In 1961, the Korolev prototype design bureau started research & development of the satellite Molniya-1, which had to transmit one TV program and to provide multi-channel telegraphic and telephonic communications. The General designer of the satellite was M.P. Kappanov. On April 23, 1961 the third in succession and the first successful launch of the soviet communications satellite Molniya-1 took place.

The Satellite Communications Center (SCC) Dubna was taken into operation in 1980 by the order of the Minister for Communications of the Soviet Union as an Olympic Object. Its purpose was to provide the Olympic Games transmissions from Moscow to the countries of Europe and the Atlantic region. At present, SCC Dubna is the largest teleport of Russia and one of the largest in Europe.
