Russian Satellite Communications Company marks its 35-year anniversary.

On the 4th of November 2002 Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC), a national satellite communications operator, marks its anniversary. The first pilot communications session took place in the USSR in the year of 1967 (35 years ago). The Central TV signal was transmitted from Moscow to the city of Vladivostok via "Molniya-1" (The Lightning) satellite. Afterwards, The Union Communications Node No.9" was set up in February 1968 by the order of the USSR Ministry of Communications. Later, the Node became a leading state operator of satellite constellation named "RUSSIAN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY" Federal State Unitary Enterprise.

The Enterprise has been fulfilling important state tasks during all these years. RSCC provides effective operation of governmental communications lines, mobile presidential communications, telephony in remote regions of Russia, the Internet access, videoconferencing services and live reports. A special task given to RSCC is to distribute All-Russian TV and radio programs over Russia, CIS and foreign countries. RSCC brought broadcasting of the sporting events of The Olympic Games held in Moscow in 1980. In 90-s the Enterprise pioneered in Russian commercial satellite broadcasting. The following TV channels "TV-6", "NTV", "TV-Tsentr" and "STS" started their operations via RSCC satellites. In the early 2001 RSCC put into operation the satellite multi-service network across the Nentz Autonomous District. Now, the Customers of the Region are able to receive regional TV and radio programs and may use telephone channels.

Today, RSCC is executing the Project for Renovation of Russian National Satellite Constellation. The Company is involved in the program for the deployment of multi-service satellite network in the Far-Eastern Federal Region and in the transfer of All-Russian TV and radio programs into digital format.
